FORDHAM WOMEN'S SOCCER ANNOUNCES THE SIGNEES FOR 2005 SEASON

(March 16, 2005) - Fordham Women's Soccer Coach Ness Selmani has announced the signing of four recruits as forward Katie Sanchez (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy), midfielder Alexis Ribadeneyra (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony's), defender Catherine Huvane (Scarsdale, NY/The Ursuline School), and midfielder Corey Cerrato (Garden City, NY/Garden City) will suit up for the Rams in 2005. Sanchez is a talented forward, who currently plays club soccer for the Albertson Fury, where she serves as team captain. She helped her club team reach the Region I Premier Final in 2004, while winning the 2004 Super Clubs Championships in Virginia Beach and the 2003 Orange Classic. Individually, she has received MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors at the high school level, and was a member of the NYC Region team at the Empire State Games, as well as LIJSL ODP for three seasons with Westchester Select. Ribadeneyra is a flexible player, who has seen action at midfielder, forward, and sweeper in her soccer career. A teammate of Sanchez's on the Albertson Fury, she was an LIJSL ODP Select player in 2004. She also ran varsity track at St. Anthony's as a freshman, becoming the CHSAA Hurdles Champion in 2002 and competed at the Penn Relays. Huvane heads to Fordham as a strong, tough defender, who plays club soccer for the Eastchester Patriots. Over a two-year span, she recorded 24 goals and 12 assists for Ursuline, being named team MVP twice and helping the team reach the Section Final for the first time ever in 2003. She garnered Tri-County First Team honors, selected by The Journal News in 2003 and 2004, while also being a Westchester All-County selection. A member of Eastern NY ODP in 2004, she played in the ODP Regional Pool for the Mid-Atlantic Super Y League, winning the Super Y League Regional Championship in 2003. Cerrato is an All-Conference, All-County player for Garden City, who plays club soccer for Rockville Centre Hotshots Premier Team. An Eastern NY ODP player for six years and a 2004 ODP Surf Cup Champion in 2004, she was also an LIJSL Select player for two seasons and played in the Super Y League in 2003. In 2001, she helped Garden City to the Nassau County Championship, and garnered most valuable forward honors for the Global Soccer Women's Indoor League. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
