FORDHAM??S KEN CHARLES NAMED TO ABA EAST ALL-STAR COACHING STAFF

(Feb. 3, 2005) ?C Former Fordham University men??s basketball standout Kenny Charles has been selected to the American Basketball Association's (ABA) East All-Stars coaching staff it was announced by the league. ??It is a privilege and honor to be chosen to participate on a coaching staff of any professional league??s event showcasing their best talent. Above all, it is a tribute to Harlem and the Strong Dogs organization in its inaugural year of existence,?? said Coach Charles in a release issued by the ABA. The ABA All-Star Weekend festivities begin on Friday, February 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada hosted by the Rattlers with the Three-Point Shooting Contest and Slam Dunk Contest. The gala concludes on Monday, February 14 with the ABA All-Star Game. The Harlem Strong Dogs are currently in second place in the ABA??s Blue (East) Division (one game behind Mississippi Stingers in the loss column) and fourth in the ABA Playoff Power Rankings. Charles has experienced basketball success throughout his career. He is also the general manager and head coach of the Brooklyn Kings of the United States Basketball League (USBL) since 2000 where he led the franchise to the division title and championship game in 2004. After graduating from Brooklyn Preparatory High School, Charles embarked on a stellar basketball career at Fordham University that included being captain of the team for two seasons, all-time season total points and single game school scoring records, second in season scoring average in school history as well as a two-time honorable mention All- American. Furthermore, Coach Charles earned his bachelor??s degree in Political Science and became the Buffalo Braves?? 1973 National Basketball Association (NBA) second-round draft pick. After three NBA seasons playing for the Braves under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Jack Ramsay, Ken Charles continued his NBA career for another three seasons playing for the Atlanta Hawks coached by legendary Hubie Brown. Upon completing his professional basketball playing career, Kenny became the first NBA analyst for ESPN then spending some time as a stockbroker and earning a law degree.
