(February 28, 2005) - Fordham University junior Katie Davis (Hanover, PA/Southwestern), sophomore pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs), and freshman Allison Twarowski (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) swept this week's Atlantic 10 weekly softball honors as Davis was named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week, Kinney earned Atlantic 10 Softball Pitcher of the Week, and Twarowski was selected as Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week.
Davis, an All-Conference selection last year, picked up her fourth career Player of the Week award, as she hit .333 over her first 10 contests with three home runs and six RBI. She also scored six runs in those contests with a .704 slugging percentage. Two weekends ago, Davis hit .429 at the ECU Pirate Classic (6-for-14) with a pair of home runs.
Kinney, last year's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, earns her second career Pitcher of the Week award, as she started the season with a record of 3-3 with a save, two shutouts, and a 1.57 ERA in seven appearances. She was selected to the All-Tournament team at the FIU/DeLong Softball Invitational back on February 13th, where she threw a pair of shutouts against Mercer and UAB, while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts against Mercer and throwing a one-hit shutout against UAB. The following week, Kinney struck out seven, allowing one run on three hits in a win over East Carolina at the ECU Pirate Classic, and then got the save against Radford, pitching the seventh inning, striking out two batters.
Twarowski, the Rams' freshman third baseman, picks up her first career accolade, after being the Rams?? leading hitter after 10 games with a .346 batting average (9-for-26). She has registered five runs, two doubles and four RBI and was named to the All-Tournament team at the FIU/DeLong Softball Invitational, after hitting .300 in the tournament. She followed that performance by hitting .375 in five games at the ECU Pirate Classic, collecting six hits and three RBI.
The Fordham Softball team is currently 4-6 in the early goings of 2005, and will next be in action on Saturday, March 5th, as they host the Fordham Invitational as Bahoshy Field against Hofstra University, Harvard University, and Niagara University.
