FORDHAM??S BRYANT DUNSTON NAMED ATLANTIC 10 MEN??S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(February 13, 2005) ?C Fordham University freshman forward Bryant Dunston (Queens, NY/St. John??s Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Men??s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 12th. This is the fifth weekly award for Dunston who becomes the first Ram ever to earn five A-10 Rookie of the Week honors. Bevon Robin received the honor four times in the 1997-98 season. In three games this week, all conference tilts, Dunston led the Rams to a 2-1 record with wins over St. Bonaventure (84-62) and Massachusetts (63-56) and a loss at La Salle (90-88 in overtime). On the week, he averaged 16.3 ppg and 12.3 rpg and posted his fifth and sixth double-doubles of the year. He opened the week with ten points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes at La Salle and then scored 21 points and added a season-best 19 rebounds in the win over St. Bonaventure. He became the first Ram to pull down 19 rebounds in a game since Duke Freeman-McKamey grabbed 20 rebounds while scoring 28 points in an 88-83 loss to George Washington University on February 26, 2000 in the Rose Hill Gym. The 19 rebounds is also the third best total by a freshman in Atlantic 10 history. Dunston closed out the week with 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the win over Massachusetts. Dunston shot 16-24 from the field on the week (.667) and 2-4 from three-point land (.500) while also tallying eight assists, four blocks and two steals. On the year, Dunston is averaging a team-best 14.4 ppg and 8.4 rpg, both team highs, as well as leading the Rams with 49 blocks. He is ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and third in rebounding and he is also third in the conference in blocked shots (2.23/game). The Rams (10-12, 6-5) will continue their 2005 Atlantic 10 schedule on Wednesday, February 16th as they travel to Washington, DC to face the George Washington University Colonials at 7:30 p.m.
