(December 19, 2005) - Fordham Head Baseball Coach Nick Restaino announced four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Fordham University, starting with the 2007 season. The four signees are pitcher/infielder
Andrew Davis (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand), outfielder
Michael Mobbs (Stony Point, NY/Don Bosco Prep), outfielder
Lucas Momo (New York, NY/The Trinity School), and pitcher
Brian Tallerico (Novelty, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin).
"We are extremely excited about these four student-athletes that have agreed to join the Fordham baseball family, each player will address a need and contribute to our future success," said Restaino.
Davis, a native of Madison, CT, is a 6-1 right-hander pitcher for Daniel Hand High School, where is a four-year varsity player serving as team captain this season. As a pitcher with tremendous potential, he finished with a 2.15 ERA and 55 strikeouts as a junior. He received All-State and All-Conference honors last season, and was voted MVP and Best Pitcher in his league. He has had success as a football player as well at Daniel Hand, winning three consecutive class M State titles as a varsity player. Andrew is also the younger brother of current Ram hurler Tom Davis.
Mobbs, a Stony Point, NY native, is a 6-2 outfielder that will give the Rams depth. A PUMA Preseason All-American and team captain for 2006, he is a talented and well rounded baseball player, after hitting .406 with three home runs and 27 RBI at Don Bosco Prep last year. He helped the squad to a 24-5 record last season, and garnered All-NNJIL honors. In 2004, he received the Doug Davis Award, presented annually to a Don Bosco baseball player, who displays love and dedication to the game. Away from the diamond, Mobbs is a member of the National and Math Honors Societies, while receiving the Physics Bronze Medal (2005), the Theology Gold Medal (2004), and the English Gold Medal (2003), which are given based on the highest GPAs in that subject.
Momo, from New York City, is a 6-0 outfielder, who played at the same high school as current Ram freshman John Kahn. He is a three-sport standout, having earned All-League honors in baseball and basketball, while setting the school record in the shot put. Momo is a switch-hitting outfielder and a two-year captain at The Trinity School. Over the summer, he played for the New York Gothams, batting .400 with a .559 on-base percentage and 60 stolen bases in 192 plate appearances. He brings a lot of talent and determination to Rose Hill, as he has played in the 2004 PG World Wood Bat Championship for the Long Island Titans, hitting .500 in that tournament, while also being selected to the 2005 Top 96 National Showcase.
Tallerico, who hails from Novelty, OH, was a highly recruited 6-2 left handed pitcher, who comes from the same high school, as current Rams?? outfielder Brian Keeney and former standout outfielder Bobby Kingsbury. He was named to the North Coast All-League team twice, earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and Second Team accolades as a junior. This past summer, Tallerico posted a 2.09 ERA in 48 innings of work to go with 48 strikeouts and a 4-2 record. He wasn??t too shabby at the plate either, hitting .421 (40-95) with 24 runs scored, 22 RBI, and seven stolen bases.
Led by 2005 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Nick Restaino, Fordham will look to improve on last season, where the team was 34-21 overall, 17-7 in the Atlantic 10. On the field, the team will be led by team captains Greg Smith, Kevin Hoover, and John Mollicone, who are all poised for a breakout year, as this year??s Atlantic 10 Championship will be hosted by Fordham at the newly renovated Houlihan Park. Fordham is the first school to host the entire Atlantic 10 Championship on campus in 20 years.
