FORDHAM'S MARIJA MARKOVIC NAMED TO THE ATLANTIC 10 VOLLEYBALL ALL-CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM

(November 16, 2005) - In a vote by the Atlantic 10's Volleyball head coaches, Fordham University junior Marija Markovic (Pljevjla, Serbia) was selected to the Atlantic 10 Volleyball All-Conference First Team, it was announced today. Fellow juniors Jamee Stimson (Milford, NH/Milford) and Kealia Ieremia (Sandy, UT/Jordan) were also among the Atlantic 10 honorees, garnering All-Conference Honorable Mention. Markovic put together one of the best statistical seasons in Fordham Volleyball history. She led the team in hitting percentage (.345), kills (411), kills per game (3.45), service aces (53), service aces per game (0.45), total blocks (172), and blocks per game (1.45). As of November 14th, she ranked 24th in the nation in blocks, as she set every single-season blocking record at Fordham this season. Her 411 kills rank third on Fordham's single-season list, while her .342 hitting percentage was the second-best mark ever at Fordham. Markovic also became the first Ram to record over 400 kills and 150 total blocks in the same season. Stimson, a 2004 Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection, also had a career-year, notching career-highs with 354 kills, a .267 hitting percentage, 44 service aces, and 82 total blocks. Her 354 kills was the sixth-best single-season total at Fordham, while her 76 blocks assists ranked fourth in the school record book. Like her teammates, Ieremia also put together one of the best seasons by a Fordham setter. She set the Fordham single-season mark for assists per game at 11.39, while her total of 1,230 assists is second on the single-season list. She also hit for a career-high .276 hitting percentage to go with 121 kills, 262 digs, and 62 total blocks. The Fordham Volleyball team went 19-14 on the year, the most wins for the program since 1992, while being the first winning season since 1990 (21-17). The team posted a 5-8 in Atlantic 10 play, which tied for third in the East Division. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City??s Jesuit University. With 22 men??s and women??s varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women??s rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
