FORDHAM'S JUSTIN BURSE NAMED ATLANTIC 10 MEN'S SOCCER CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

(October 3, 2005) - Fordham University sophomore Justin Burse (Prospect, KY/St. Xavier) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week for the week ending October 1st. This is Burse's first Atlantic 10 honor, and is the first Fordham player to garner Player of the Week honors since Riad Mehovic in 2003. He also stands as the third Ram to receive weekly Atlantic 10 honors this season, along with freshmen Grant Kerr and Sam Acheampong. Burse recorded his second and third consecutive shutouts this past week, helping the Rams to wins over Iona and Manhattan. He extended his shutout streak to almost 330 minutes, making seven saves against Iona, while having two versus Manhattan. On the year, Burse has lowered his goals against average to 0.67, while recording an .846 save percentage and a 5-1-0 record. The Fordham Men's Soccer team is currently 6-1-2 on the year and is unbeaten in their last seven contests, including wins in their last five games. The five-game win streak is the longest for Fordham since 1988, and the team moved into the seven spot in the New York Regional Rankings by the NSCAA last week. The Rams will now begin Atlantic 10 play this coming weekend, as they host the Richmond Spiders, on Friday, October 7th, at 7:00 PM, and the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday, October 9th at 1:00 PM.
