Despite the rainy day, the 2005 Fordham University Golf Classic held on October 11th at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York turned out to be another huge success according to golf classic coordinator
Julio Diaz, FC ??77. And to top things off, Chris Bartro became the first golfer in the 21-year history of the classic to score a hole-in-one at the event.
Bartro, with his first shot of the day, hit the hole-in-one on the 13th hole, a 180-yard par-three hole and won a trip to Scotland, compliments of ProGolf Travel in conjunction with The Old Course Experience and the Old Course Hotel. Bartro will have a chance to play a guaranteed round of golf at the Old Course at St. Andrews.
Bartro was a member of a group hosted by Rick Flynn, FC ??79, a former football Ram, along with John Polster, CB ??78, another former football Ram, and Jay Faillace. The foursome won first place in the Best Ball Net competition.
The day started with 18 holes on the prestigious Winged Foot Course, home of the 2006 U.S. Open Championship.
A cocktail hour and awards dinner followed the day of golf with a live auction. Bob Papa, radio voice of the New York Giants and 1986 Fordham graduate, served as the Master of Ceremony and Fordham President, Fr. Joseph McShane, SJ, spoke to those in attendance. This year??s Golf Classic co-chairmen were James Agoglia, CB ??92 and John McGinley, FC ??94 who supported the event tremendously with their fundraising efforts.
Over 330 golfers participated in the event which benefits the Campus Ministry programs and the Athletics Department.
It??s not too early to start thinking about next year as the date for the 22nd Annual Fordham University Golf Classic has been set for Tuesday, October 10th at Winged Foot Golf Club. For information on the 2006 Fordham University Golf Classic contact
