FORDHAM FOOTBALL TO HOST HOLY CROSS ON HOMECOMING WEEKEND IN BATTLE FOR RAM-CRUSADER CUP ON SATURDAY

After playing four straight road games over the past five weeks, the Fordham University football Rams will return to Jack Coffey Field to host the College of the Holy Cross on Saturday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. Prior to the game, there will a moment of silence to honor Fordham great and New York Giants co-owner, Wellington Mara, a 1937 Fordham graduate who passed away this past Tuesday. The Rams will also honor Mara by wearing his initials ??WM?? on their helmets. The Fordham-Holy Cross football game is the annual battle for the Ram-Crusader Cup in the memory of Major Frank W. Cavanaugh, who was an outstanding figure in the football coaching annals of both Fordham and Holy Cross. The game will also be a homecoming for Bob Papa, the radio play-by-play voice of the New York Giants and 1986 Fordham graduate. While a student at Fordham, Papa was a member of the WFUV radio staff and he will return to his roots on Saturday to broadcast the third quarter play-by-play for WFUV. As part of the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of One-on-One, New York??s longest-running sports show, WFUV is inviting back former members to broadcast various football and men??s basketball games. At halftime of the game, all football alumni in attendance will be honored with a focus on the teams from the 1980??s, Fordham??s last decade as an NCAA Division III team. For the last half of the 1980??s with Larry Glueck as head coach, the Rams lived in the Liberty Conference and won the championship in 1987 and 1988. Members of the 1970 squad, Fordham??s first varsity team since 1954, will also be honored on the 35th anniversary of varsity football returning to Rose Hill and the 1965 team will be recognized on the 40th anniversary of their number one national club team ranking. The Rams enter the game with a 0-7 record, 0-3 in the Patriot League, while the Crusaders enter the game with a 5-3 overall record, 2-1 in the conference. This will be the 43rd meeting between the two schools on the gridiron, with Holy Cross leading the all-time series 22-18-2. Fordham has captured the last four games, keeping the Ram-Crusader Cup on Rose Hill. Tickets are available through the Fordham Ticket Office by calling 718-817-4300.
