(October 24, 2005) - Fordham University junior Haley Lentsch (Woodbuy, MN/Stillwater Area) and freshman Katie Sanchez (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) garnered Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer weekly awards today, as Lentsch was named Co-Player of the Week, while Sanchez was named Rookie of the Week. This is the first Atlantic 10 honor for both, as well as the first Atlantic 10 weekly honor for any Fordham Women's Soccer player this season.
Both players came up big this weekend, as Fordham swept two soccer matches from Xavier and Dayton, which marked the first time the Rams had ever beaten both Ohio schools in the same season. Against Xavier, Lentsch scored twice, while Sanchez assisted on the third goal, as the Rams shutout the Musketeers, 3-0 on Friday night. On Sunday, Lentsch and Sanchez each had a goal and an assist, with Sanchez's being the game-winner, as Fordham beat Dayton, 2-1, for the first time in nine all-time meetings.
Currently, Lentsch leads the team in scoring with nine goals and four assists for 22 points, while Sanchez is second on the team with four goals and four assists for 12 points.
The Fordham Women's Soccer team is currently 8-8 on the year, heading into their final two games of the season. The Rams will host the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Friday, October 28th, at 7:00 PM, and the Temple Owls on Sunday, October 30th at 1:00 PM.
