(October 10, 2005) ?C Fordham University freshman Jacqueline Prevete (Roslyn, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for Cross Country for the week ending October 8th. It is the first weekly honor for Prevete and the first for a Fordham women??s cross country runner since Natalie Katula was named Rookie of the Week in 2001. Prevete also received ECAC Cross Country Co-Athlete of the Week honors.
Last Saturday, the Rams competed in the 2005 Metropolitan Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park where Prevete led the team to a fourth place finish out of 14 teams.
Prevete covered the 5K course in a time of 19:18 to finish eighth overall out of 135 runners. Her time was the fastest turned in by a Fordham freshman at the Met Championships since Elaine Laird in 1988.
On the year, Prevete has four top ten finishes in five meets and has been Fordham??s top finisher in each meet. Her season best time of 19:06 came in the Fordham Invitational on September 10th.
The Rams will next be in action when they compete in the Red Storm Classic on Sunday, October 16th in Oakdale, New York.
