FORDHAM??S BRYANT DUNSTON NAMED ATLANTIC 10 MEN??S BASKETBALL CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(January 23, 2005) ?C Fordham University freshman forward Bryant Dunston (Queens, NY/St. John??s Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Men??s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 22nd. This is the fourth weekly award for Dunston who becomes the first Ram to earn four A-10 Rookie of the Week honors since Bevon Robin received the honor four times in the 1997-98 season. Dunston shares the honor with Temple??s Mark Tyndale. In three games this week, all conference tilts, Dunston led the Rams to a 2-1 record with wins over Xavier (76-74) and Rhode Island (63-49) and a loss at Massachusetts (76-63). On the week, he averaged 18.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg and posted his fourth double-double of the year. He opened the week with 23 points and 11 rebounds for the fourth double-double of the year, while also blocking three shots, in the win over Xavier. Dunston followed that with 13 points and six rebounds in the Massachusetts loss and closed out the week with a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in the win at Rhode Island. The win broke a 20-game Atlantic 10 road losing streak for Fordham. Dunston shot 19-37 from the field on the week (.514) and 2-4 from three-point land (2-4) while also tallying five blocks and three steals. On the year, Dunston is averaging a team-best 14.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg, both team highs, as well as leading the Rams with 42 blocks. He is ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and fourth in rebounding and he is second in the conference in blocked shots (2.47/game). The Rams (7-10, 3-3) will continue their 2005 Atlantic 10 schedule on Wednesday, January 26th as they host the Temple University Owls in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 p.m.
