FORDHAM??S BRYANT DUNSTON NAMED ATLANTIC 10 MEN??S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(January 2, 2005) ?C Fordham University freshman forward Bryant Dunston (Queens, NY/St. John??s Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Men??s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 1st. This is the third weekly award for Dunston who becomes the first Ram to earn three A-10 Rookie of the Week honors since Bevon Robin received the honor four times in the 1997-98 season. In three games this week, Dunston posted three double-doubles to average 16.3 points and 12.3 rebounds, along with 3.3 blocks a game. He opened the week with 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a 50-49 loss to Charleston Southern in the first round of UCF Holiday Invitational in Orlando on December 28th. He also had five steals and a pair of blocks in that game and then he recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots in a 65-61 loss to Central Florida in the consolation game on December 29th. Dunston closed the week with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and four rejections at Western Kentucky on January 1st. On the week, he shot 18-40 (.450) from the field, 1-2 (.500) from three, and 12-18 (.667) from the line. On the year, Dunston is averaging a team-best 14.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg, both teams highs, as well as leading the Rams with 31 blocks. He is ranked tenth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and fifth in rebounding and he leads the conference in blocked shots (2.82/game). The Rams (4-7) will open their 2005 Atlantic 10 schedule on Wednesday, January 5th as they host the Saint Joseph??s University Hawks in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 p.m.
