(January 17, 2005) - Fordham freshmen Kerstin Greene (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl Von Weinberg) and Michael Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/ St. Joseph??s Prep) were selected as Atlantic 10 Women??s and Men??s Indoor Track & Field Rookies of the Week, for the week ending January 16th. This is Greene??s third straight Atlantic 10 weekly rookie award, while it is the first for Kearney.
Greene captured her third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after setting a school record in the long jump at the NYU Invitational on January 14th with a mark of 17?? 7 1/2??. It eclipsed the previous record of 16?? 11 1/2?? held by Jeannie Farrell in 1999. She then followed that performance with a second place finish in the high jump at the Yale Invitational on January 15th, clearing 5?? 5??, while also running a leg of the winning 4x400 relay at Yale in a season-best time of 3:58.66.
Kearney grabs his first Atlantic 10 honor after helping the men??s distance medley relay team finish first at the NYU Invitational in an IC4A Championship qualifying time of 10:16.54. He also posted a time of 22.91 seconds in the 200 meter dash at NYU, the second fastest by a Ram this season. He followed that effort with a time of 50.99 seconds in the 400 meter dash at the Yale Invitational, which was also the second best time by a Ram this season.
The Fordham Track and Field team will next be in action on Saturday, January 22nd, as they participate at the Princeton Relays, beginning at 11:00 AM.
