(Sept. 3, 2004) - Henry Kirlew rushed 13 times for 73 yards but it wasn??t enough as Nassau Community College scored two second half touchdowns for a 14-0 win over the Fordham University Junior Varsity on Murphy Field. It was the season opener for both teams.
The game was scoreless at the half but Nassau Community College went on a 46-yard scoring drive on its first drive of the second half to take a 7-0 lead on a two-yard touchdown rush from #7. #26 did most of the damage for the Lions on the drive, picking up 20 yards on three carries.
The Lions put the game away in the fourth quarter, using a 12-play, 55-yard drive to go up 14-0 on a one-yard scoring plunge from #26. The drive was kept alive when the Rams where whistled for a holding penalty on a fourth and four play from the Fordham 35.
Fordham??s best chance to score came late in the second quarter when Austin McClain-Duer blocked a 44-yard field goal attempt and the ball was recovered by the Rams on the Nassau 46. Kirlew picked up 11 yards on the first play from scrimmage and a Ross Crist to Anthony Myres pass two plays later put the ball on the Lions?? 26. Kirlew then picked up a first down with a two-yard rush but time ran out following an incomplete pass.
Myres finished the day with four receptions for 40 yards.
Michael Nardone led the Fordham defense with five total tackles, three solo, while Dominique Owens made four stops, three solo, including two for a loss, and Hamilton Durandisse finished with four tackles, two solo.
