(September 27, 2004) ?C Fordham University sophomore quarterback Derric Daniels (Washington, DC/H.D. Woodson) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week while freshman running back Jonte Coven (Stone Mountain, GA/Stephenson) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for games of September 25th. This is the third week in which Coven earned the weekly honor.
Fordham picked up its first home win of the 2004 season with a 41-34 victory over Duquesne University on Jack Coffey Field on Saturday. It was the Rams?? third straight win on the season after they opened the year with a one-point loss to Rhode Island.
In the Duquesne game, Daniels completed 16 of 25 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns. Daniels, who also gained 13 yards on four carries, threw TD passes of 5, 10, 36, 13 and 4 yards, raising his season total to 10 scoring strikes in four contests. The five touchdown passes ties a Jack Coffey Field record, held by five different players. The last person to throw five touchdown passes on Jack Coffey Field was Fordham??s Mark Carney, who threw for five scores against Georgetown on September 29, 2001.
On the season, Daniels, who had not appeared in a college game prior to this year, has completed 48 of 97 passes for 550 yards and ten touchdowns. He ranks third in the PL with a 124.9 pass efficiency rating.
Against Duquesne, Coven rushed seven times for 42 yards. On the year, Coven has rushed 30 times for 155 yards, an average of 5.2 yards/rush.
The Rams will next travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to open their 2004 Patriot League schedule at Holy Cross on Saturday, October 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
