(September 27, 2004) - Fordham University sophomore Anthony Akande (Abuja, Nigeria/Loyola Jesuit College High School) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 26th. This is Akande's first Atlantic 10 honor, and is the first Fordham player to win Rookie of the Week honors since Patrick McNamee did so last September.
Akande, playing in his first season of collegiate competition, scored his first two collegiate goals within a one minute and 47 seconds of each other in the second half of a scoreless game between Fordham and Iona on Saturday. Fordham ended up winning the contest, 4-1, with Akande registering the game-winning goal. He is currently tied for the team lead in goals and points.
The Fordham Men's Soccer team is currently 2-5 on the year after winning their last two games by a combined score of 7-1. The Rams open Atlantic 10 play this weekend as they host the University of Richmond on Friday, October 1st at 7:00 PM on Murphy Field and George Washington University on Sunday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM on Edwards' Parade.
