LYNETTE RIVERA NAMED HEAD CHEERLEADING COACH AT FORDHAM UNIVERSITY

(August 5, 2004) ?C Lynette Rivera, head cheerleading coach at The Ursuline School has been named Head Cheerleading Coach at Fordham University it was announced today by Frank McLaughlin, Fordham University Executive Director of Athletics. Rivera comes to Fordham after serving as the Varsity Cheer Coach at The Ursuline School for the past year. At Ursuline, Rivera is responsible for the entire program, which included coaching, fundraising and scheduling. She was also responsible for choreographing all dance routines as well as implementing a cheer clinic hosted by the school. Rivera led the squad to its best ever finish at the National High School Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, Florida. Under her guidance, Ursuline never placed lower than fourth at local competitions. Rivera is no stranger to Fordham, serving as a volunteer cheer instructor for the school since the 2003 spring semster. A 2000 graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Journalism, Rivera was a member of the Co-Ed Cheerleading National Team at UMass from 1997-99 and the All Girl Cheerleading National Team in 1996-97. While an undergraduate, Rivera started her coaching career, serving as a trainer/cheer instructor at the Universal Cheerleaders Association in Nashville, Tennessee in the summers of 1997 and 1998. She was also chosen to be a staff member for the Pine Forest Cheerleading Camp, the largest cheerleading camp in the Northeast.
