(June 3, 2004) ?C Fordham University senior outfielder Erin Brooks (Norwich, NY/Norwich) was named Second Team Academic All-America? as selected by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) it was announced today. The team is selected by a vote of the district??s Sports Information Directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and have a 3.2 gpa for his/her entire career.
Brooks, who was named First Team Academic All-District to earn a place on the national ballot for Academic All-America? consideration, received the honor for the second consecutive season. Last year, Brooks was named Third Team Academic All-America?. The Computer Information Systems major graduated with a 3.88 GPA and received Fordham??s Ben Harter Award, presented to the senior student-athlete with the highest GPA from the College of Business Administration.
This spring, Brooks hit .287 (51-178), fourth best on the team, with a team-high ten doubles, two triples, two home runs and 25 RBIs, second best on the team. The 2004 Claire Hobbs Award winner as the school??s outstanding female student-athlete set career highs in doubles, home runs and RBIs this year and was 11-for-14 in stolen bases. Brooks finished among the Atlantic 10 leaders in doubles (second), runs scored (second), hits (third), RBIs (fifth), stolen bases (sixth) and batting average (14th).
Brooks was also named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for the past two years.
Fordham finished the season with a 35-24-1 overall record, the Ram??s second straight 30-win season. The Rams were 8-6 in the Atlantic 10 and earned a bid to the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the second consecutive year.
