Jim McElderry has announced the signing of seven recruits today as midfielder Brian Glennon (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), goalkeeper Justin Burse (Louisville, KY/St. Xavier), forward Shaun Moamem (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck North), midfielder Peter Kasyanenko (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia), defender Stephen Franchini (Woodridge, NJ/Don Bosco), forward David Jacques (Warwick, NY/Don Bosco), and midfielder Kevin Meyer (South Windsor, CT/East Catholic) will suit up for the Rams in 2005. Four of the signees should be very familiar with each other as Moamem, Glennon, Franchini, and Kasyanenko all currently play for the MetroStars of the Super Y-League.
Glennon was a four-year starter at Ridgewood and a selection to the New Jersey All-State Team. He has been a member of the Region I Olympic Development Team since 2000, and has spent a significant amount of time competing overseas with his regional team and training domestically with the US National Team. A former member of PDA United and Thistle FC, Glennon currently plays with the MetroStars of the Super Y-League, and was named a National Team All-Star while playing center midfield for their squad, which reached the National Super-Y League Championship game in 2003. Most recently, Glennon competed with the Region I Team in France over the Easter Holiday.
Burse played goalkeeper for a St. Xavier squad, which has won two state championships during his tenure. In 2002, he set the Kentucky State Record for most single season shutouts. A four-year member of the Kentucky Olympic Development State Team, Burse rejoined his former club Javanon this spring after a merger between Javanon and his club JYSA United, which made it to the Region II Semi-Finals in 2002.
Moamem comes to Fordham from Great Neck North High School, where he was a four- year varsity starter. He was invited to participate alongside Long Island??s best in the Exceptional Senior Game capping off a great career, which saw him lead his school in scoring for three years. Moamem has also been a member of the Eastern New York Olympic Development Team since 1999 and a member of the Super Y-League since 2002, where he won the National Championship competing for the New York Freedoms. For the past year, he has been competing with the highly successful MetroStars of the Super Y-League.
Kasyanenko just finished playing four years of varsity soccer at Columbia High School. During his highly prolific high school career, he was named to the New Jersey All-State Team in each of his last 3 years on the squad, while also serving as team captain. Kasyanenko, who also plays club soccer for the MetroStars, was named to the Super Y-League Regional Team this past winter.
Franchini was named team MVP at Don Bosco during his senior year. He was also named to the All-League, All-County and All-State teams during his senior season. Franchini is the captain of his MetroStars Super Y-League team, which played in the national championship game in 2003 and the finals of the 2004 Dallas Cup Super Group.
Jacques joins his high school teammate Stephen Franchini from Don Bosco, where he was named to the All-League, All-County, and All-State teams. He recently joined the Allendale Americans club team, a team he captains, after spending four years playing for FC Westchester in New York.
Meyer served as team captain at East Catholic, and led the team in assists for each of his final three seasons, and was named to the All-Conference team as a senior. A member of the National Honor Society during his senior year, he currently plays his club soccer for Windsor World Class after spending four years playing for Manchester Premier.
Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
