(May 25, 2004) ?C Fordham University senior Megan Rogers (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga Central) was among 124 Division I student-athletes to receive a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athlete award it was announced today.
The National Scholar-Athlete award, in its sixth year, is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the season??s races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete??s Head Coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season.
Rogers, a senior member of the women??s rowing squad, also received the 2004 John Kieran Award, presented to the Fordham College senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions. This award honors the memory of John Kieran, FCO ??12, a famous radio broadcaster, sports editor of the New York Times and member of Baseball??s Hall of Fame.
Rogers is a four-year member of the women??s rowing team who has posted a 3.69 cumulative GPA throughout her Fordham career. A communications major, she holds the highest GPA of any senior student-athlete in Fordham College. As a member of Fordham??s premier boat, the varsity 8, this season, she has helped Fordham win the Manhattan Invitational and the Metropolitan Championships as well as finishing third at the Knecht Cup and fifth at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta.
