(May 25, 2004) ?C Fordham University junior catcher Jeremy Bourgeois (Danvers, MA/Danvers) and senior designated hitter Kurt Thomas (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick) were named to the All-Atlantic 10 Baseball Team it was announced today. Bourgeois was named First Team All-Conference while Thomas was named to the Second Team.
Bourgeois, who was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in 2003, leads the Rams in hitting with a .372 average (58-156) with 15 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 38 RBI. A starter in 43 games, he also leads the team in doubles, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage (.635) and he has stolen six bases in eight attempts.
Bourgeois is tenth in the Atlantic 10 in batting average.
Thomas, who appeared in 49 games, starting 48, is hitting .329 (55-167) with eight doubles, four triples, three home runs and 37 RBIs. He leads the team with 40 walks and with ten stolen bases on the year and is second in runs scored (39) and third in batting average and hits.
Earlier this year, Thomas collected his 200th career hit, becoming just the seventh player in Fordham history to notch 200 hits. He currently has 214 career hits, placing him fourth on the Fordham all-time list. Thomas has also appeared in a Fordham records 189 career games.
Thomas, who was named First Team Academic All-District 1 earlier this month, was also named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team. Joining him on the team is senior pitcher Rob Semerano (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis). Semerano, who carries a 3.88 GPA in Accounting, is 4-2 with a 5.23 ERA on the year. He has appeared in 13 games, starting ten, and has worked 62.0 innings, striking out 51 hitters. Semerano is second on the team in strikeouts and third in wins and innings pitched.
Fordham finished the regular season with a 24-15-1 overall record, 13-11 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams enter the 2004 Atlantic 10 Tournament as the #5 seed and will face St. Bonaventure, the #4 seed, on Wednesday at noon at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut. This is Fordham??s third trip to the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and the first since 1998, when they won the Atlantic 10 title. The Rams have a 2-2 all-time record at the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
