(May 24, 2004) ?C Seniors Jared Amatuzzo (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell), NaQuinton Gainous (Tallahassee, FL/Lincoln), Ed Gordon (Freeport, NY/Freeport) and Tad Kornegay (Trenton, NJ/Hamilton West) were named 2004 Fordham University Football team captains.
Amatuzzo, a center, is a two-year starter on the offensive line for the Rams. Over the past two years, he has helped the Fordham offense set numerous records including most rushing yards in a season, most passing yards in a season, and most points scored in a season.
Gainous, a two-year starter at linebacker, was named Second Team All-Patriot League last fall for the second straight year. He led the defense last year with 90 total tackles, 51 solo, including five tackles for a loss. Gainous also intercepted two passes and broke up two others.
Gordon, a two-year member of the defensive line, started 11 games at left tackle last fall, making 30 stops, 12 solo. He also recorded 2.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks while breaking up a pass and recovering a fumble.
Kornegay, a two-year starter in the defensive backfield at cornerback, was a First Team All-Patriot League pick in 2003. He led the defensive backs with four interceptions and was second on the team with 72 total tackles, 49 solo. He also registered a league-best 17 pass break-ups last year.
The Rams open their 2004 season on Saturday, September 4th as they host the University of Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m.
