(May 17, 2004) - Fordham University freshman Brian Keeney (Chagrin Falls, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) earned his first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor, as Keeney was named Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Rookie of the Week. Keeney shares the award with Richmond's Rob Berzinskas.
Keeney helped the Fordham Rams clinch their first Atlantic 10 Tournament berth since the 1998 season, by hitting .455 over the weekend with a home run and three RBI. He had a pair of multi-hit games versus Temple this weekend. His biggest performance though came on Sunday, where he hit what would be the game-winning home run, a solo shot in the seventh inning in the Rams' 8-5 win over the Owls.
Keeney is currently batting .273 overall with two home runs and 17 RBI, while in conference play he is batting .307 with two home runs and 13 RBI.
The Fordham Baseball team is currently 24-25-1 overall, 13-11 in the Atlantic 10, and will be the #5 seed at the Atlantic 10 Baseball Tournament, which will be at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT, on May 26-29.
The Rams though will next be in action before that as they travel to Queens to meet St. John's on Wednesday, May 19th at 1:00 PM.
