(May 11, 2004) - Fordham Women's Basketball Coach Jim Lewis announced the signing of one additional recruit for the 2004-05 season today, as the Rams signed forward Vanessa Silva (Rancharia, Brazil/Trinity Valley CC). Silva joins an already strong recruiting class for next season, which includes point guard Nikki Bozeman (Clinton, MD/Bishop McNamara), wing player Antelia Parrish (Clinton, MD/Bishop McNamara), and shooting guard Heather Westrol (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Catholic).
Silva, a 6' 4" forward, joins Fordham after two successful seasons at Trinity Valley Community College. In her first season, she helped Trinity Valley to a 30-1 record and a #2 ranking in the country by averaging about seven points and four rebounds, while shooting 57% from the field.
This season, Silva helped Trinity Valley capture the 2004 National Championship, the 2004 Regional Championship, and the 2004 Conference Championship, going 36-0 and finishing #1 in the polls. She garnered First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference honors after averaging 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game. She also shot better than 57% from the field as well as 78% from the free throw line.
