(May 11, 2004) - Fordham Women's Basketball Coach Jim Lewis announced the signing of one additional recruit for the 2004-05 season today, as the Rams signed forward Vanessa Silva (Rancharia, Brazil/Trinity Valley CC). Silva joins an already strong recruiting class for next season, which includes point guard Nikki Bozeman (Clinton, MD/Bishop McNamara), wing player Antelia Parrish (Clinton, MD/Bishop McNamara), and shooting guard Heather Westrol (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Catholic). Silva, a 6' 4" forward, joins Fordham after two successful seasons at Trinity Valley Community College. In her first season, she helped Trinity Valley to a 30-1 record and a #2 ranking in the country by averaging about seven points and four rebounds, while shooting 57% from the field. This season, Silva helped Trinity Valley capture the 2004 National Championship, the 2004 Regional Championship, and the 2004 Conference Championship, going 36-0 and finishing #1 in the polls. She garnered First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference honors after averaging 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game. She also shot better than 57% from the field as well as 78% from the free throw line. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
