WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NAMES MICHAEL BOZEMAN ASSISTANT COACH

(May 10, 2004) - Fordham Women??s Basketball Coach Jim Lewis announced the hiring of Michael Bozeman as a Women??s Basketball Assistant Coach. Bozeman joins current assistant coaches Niki Reid and Jeff Osterman on the staff. Bozeman comes to Fordham after an extremely successful five years as Head Coach of Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, MD. He accumulated a 128-28 record in his stint, and was a two-time Coach of the Year selection by the WCAC Conference (2001-02 and 2003-04), bringing Bishop McNamara into national prominence. This past season, he guided the team to a 27-1 record, and was ranked #3 nationally by USA Today. Bishop McNamara won three tournament championships on the year, which included the 2003 Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, TX, the 2004 Nike Invitational in Phoenix, AZ, and the 2004 Dell Curry Classic in Charlotte, NC. At the Nike Invitational, Bozeman earned Coach of the Tournament honors, and by season??s end, he was selected as the WCAC Coach of the Year for the second time. He was also named District VI Coach of the Year by the Women??s Basketball Coaches Association. In previous seasons, Bozeman led Bishop McNamara to their first DC City Title and Bishop Walsh Invitational Championship at the end of the 2002-03 season, as well as back-to-back WCAC Conference Championships. The team ended the 2002-03 season ranked 19th nationally and third in the East Region by USA Today, while garnering the #1 ranking by The Washington Post. Besides his duties at Bishop McNamara, he has served as director of the Nike Elite Summer League in Forestville, MD from 2000-03, where he was responsible for scheduling, recruitment of teams and referees, and daily supervision of league operations, as well as acting as sponsorship liaison and liaison between college coaches and players. Bozeman has also served as director for the D.C. Nike Select Girl??s Travel Team as well as being a counselor at the Nike All-American Girls Basketball Camp in Indianapolis, IN from 2001-03. Bozeman is a 1988 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he received his bachelor??s degree in Sociology. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
