(April 5, 2004) - Fordham University sophomore outfielder Katie Davis (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) earned her third Atlantic 10 weekly honor of the season, as she was named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 4th. Fordham has now received at least one Atlantic 10 weekly award for each week they have played a game. For Davis, she joins John Wolyniec (men's soccer - 1998) and Ryan Davis (indoor track and field - 2001) as the only Fordham athletes to earn Atlantic 10 Player/Performer of the Week three times in one season.
Davis, who was player of the week back on March 1st and 15th, went 3-for-6 with three runs scored in a conference doubleheader versus St. Bonaventure this past weekend. Her biggest impact came in game two as she was 3-for-4 with a double and the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to give Fordham a 3-1 win over the Bonnies. The home run was the 10th of the year for Davis, setting the Fordham career record in less than a year, that was held by Sarah Jones ('01) and current Ram Jaime Giguere, who each had nine.
On the year, Davis leads the Rams with a .427 batting average, 29 runs scored, 10 home runs, and 26 RBI.
The Fordham Softball team currently has the best overall record in the Atlantic 10 at 21-11, and will next be in action on Tuesday, April 6th as they host Seton Hall University (20-9) for a doubleheader on Bahoshy Field at 3:30 PM.
