FORDHAM??S CHRISTINA PAPA NAMED ATLANTIC 10 WOMEN??S TENNIS CO-PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

(April 5, 2004) ?C Fordham University sophomore Christina Papa (Teaneck, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) was named Atlantic 10 Women??s Tennis Co-Performer of the Week for the week ending April 4th. Fordham went 1-2 on the week with a 4-3 win over the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, a 4-3 loss to Fairfield on Monday, and a 4-2 loss to the University of Massachusetts on Friday. Papa was a perfect 3-0 in singles action on the week, playing at first singles, not losing a set. She started the week leading Fairfield??s Diane Webb 2-1 in the first set before Webb was forced to retire. She then defeated Massachusetts?? Christine Liehr, 6-3 and 6-3, before defeating Rhode Island??s Erin Fleming, 6-3 and 6-0. In doubles action, Papa teamed up with Lisa Vulin to win two doubles matches on the week, defeating Fairfield??s Erin Reeves and Andrea Suriano, 8-5, and Rhode Island??s Jessica Collins and Erin Dwyer, 8-0, both at second doubles. Papa is now 4-1 this spring in singles play and 10-4 overall on the year. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women??s varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
