(April 23, 2004) ?C Fordham University senior forward Michael Haynes was named to the NIT/MBWA All-Met Second Team as well as being drafted in the second round, 19th overall, by the Westchester Fire of the UBL.
Haynes, a Third Team All-Atlantic 10 selection this year, enjoyed his finest season as a Ram, averaging 18.6 ppg and 7.4 rpg, both career-highs. He was ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and eighth in rebounding and was just one of two conference players to be ranked in the top ten in both scoring and rebounding this year (along with La Salle??s Steven Smith). He also had 22 blocks on the year while shooting 37.0% (50-135) from three-point land.
Haynes finished the regular season playing his best basketball, scoring a career-high 36 points in Fordham??s finale at St. Bonaventure. He recorded three 30-point games on the season, the most by a Fordham player since 1989-90 when Andre McClendon topped the 30-point mark three times. Haynes scored in double figures in 26 of his 27 games in 2003-04 and recorded eight double-doubles.
He closed out his collegiate career with 1,228 points, 14th best on Fordham??s all-time list, along with 521 career rebounds, an average of 12.8 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
