(April 19, 2004) - Fordham University freshman pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) earned two Atlantic 10 weekly honors this week, giving her five total, as she was named Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week and Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 18th. She shares the Pitcher of the Week honor with Massachusetts pitcher Kelli Arnold.
By receiving her fourth rookie honor, Kinney breaks Michelle Schlichtig's mark of three rookie honors last season for the most by a Fordham freshman softball player. Fordham also keeps their team streak alive, having at least one Atlantic 10 award winner each week they have played.
Kinney, who was rookie of the week for March 15th, 29th, and April 12th, went 3-0 in three appearances on the week, striking out 18 batters in 21 innings, allowing just two earned. She was unhittable on the week, holding opponents to a .162 batting average and posting a 0.67 ERA. She started the week with a two-hit shutout over Fairfield, where she struck out six batters. Kinney then pitched back-to-back complete games in the doubleheader sweep of Dayton. In the first game, she struck out eight Flyers and allowed just two hits in a 2-1 win, while she struck out four batters in the 5-1 second game win.
On the year, Kinney has a 14-8 record with five saves, a 1.29 ERA and 125 strikeouts.
The Fordham Softball team is currently 27-14-1 on the year, 5-3 in the Atlantic 10, and will next be in action on Tuesday, April 20th as they play at Fairleigh Dickinson, beginning at 3:00 PM.
