(April 12, 2004) - Fordham University freshman pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) earned her third Atlantic 10 weekly honor of the season, as she was named Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 28th. She shares the honor with Massachusetts first baseman Amanda Morin. By receiving her third rookie honor, she ties Michelle Schlichtig's mark of three rookie honors last season for the most by a Fordham freshman softball player.
Kinney, who was rookie of the week back on March 15th and 29th, went 2-1 with a save in four appearances on the week, striking out 19 batters in 21 innings, allowing just one earned. She was unhittable on the week, holding opponents to a .103 batting average. She started the week with a complete game win over Seton Hall, where she allowed only three hits, followed by a combined one-hit shutout with teammate Carol Fischer. She ended the week by tying a career-high 11 strikeouts in the first game versus La Salle, and then picked up the save in game two.
On the year, Kinney has a 11-8 record with five saves, a 1.38 ERA and 107 strikeouts.
The Fordham Softball team is currently 24-13-1 on the year, 3-3 in the Atlantic 10, and will next be in action on Thursday, April 15th as they play at Fairfield, beginning at 4:00 PM.
