(March 9, 2004) ?C At the 2004 Atlantic 10 Men??s Basketball Awards banquet, Fordham senior forward Michael Haynes was the lone Rams recipient, as he took Third Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors. He was joined on the third team by Xavier??s Lionel Chalmers, Rhode Island??s Dawan Robinson, La Salle??s Steven Smith, and George Washington??s T. J. Thompson.
Haynes, a preseason Third Team All-Atlantic 10 pick, justified those preseason accolades by having his finest season as a Ram, averaging career-highs at 18.5 ppg and 7.2 rpg, good for 5th and 8th in the conference, respectively. He, along with Steven Smith of La Salle, were the only two players this season to be in the top ten in scoring and rebounding.
Haynes finished the regular season playing his best basketball, scoring a career-high 36 points in Fordham??s finale at St. Bonaventure. He recorded three 30-point games on the season, the most by a Fordham player since 1989-90, when Andre McClendon topped the 30-point mark three times.
Haynes currently stands 15th on Fordham??s all-time scoring list with 1,208 points.
The Fordham Men??s Basketball team will open play at the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Wednesday, March 10th as they play the University of Richmond at approximately 9:00 PM.
