For Fordham University??s Kevin Eakin, the fourth time was the charm. Eakin, along with partner Lindsey Lofstedt, won the Fourth Annual Atlantic 10 ShootOut on March 13th at the University of Dayton Arena as part of the Atlantic 10 Men??s Basketball Championship Tournament.
Eakin was competing for the fourth straight year for Fordham, his third with Lofstedt. The pair was among 150 students that participated in Fordham??s Atlantic 10 ShootOut on February 3rd in the Lombardi Center. Eakin and Lofstedt won the co-ed competition and the chance to compete for $10,000 at Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship.
The duo then moved onto the championships in Dayton along with winners from each of the other eleven Atlantic 10 institutions. Teams of two shot for 30 seconds from seven different spots on the floor.
Eakin and Lofstedt scored 17 points in the preliminary round on Friday night to advance to Saturday??s semifinal competition. In the semifinal round, they scored 31 points to advance to the final round. They beat the Temple team in the final round with 24 points to win the $10,000 first prize.
Eakin also found some success on the football field for the Rams over the past two years, being named First Team All-Patriot League at quarterback in 2002 and 2003. He set Fordham records for most completions (247) and passing yards (3,072) this past fall and graduates as the school??s all-time leader in completion percentage (61.5%), passing yards (6,112) and touchdowns (45).
Lofstedt has been a mainstay on the Fordham volleyball team the past four years, recording 311 kills and 311 digs, both second best on the team, last year.
