(March 15, 2004) ?C Fordham University sophomore infielder Katie Davis (Hanover, PA/South Western) was named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week while freshman pitcher Sara Kinney (Drippings Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) was named Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 14th.
The pair led Fordham to a 4-1 record at the UMBC Spring Classic as the Rams defeated UMBC, 8-3, in the championship game to win the title.
Davis, who was named the tournament??s Most Valuable Player, hit .562 at the Classic with two home runs and seven RBI. The two home runs brings her season total to six, breaking the Fordham single season record of five set by Sarah Jones in 1998 and tied by Jaime Giguere last year.
In the championship game, Davis was a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI.
On the season, Davis is hitting .479 (23-48) with two doubles, one triple, six home runs and 15 RBI and has hit safely in the last ten games. She leads the Rams in hits, runs (13), home runs and RBI.
Kinney, who was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher at the UMBC Spring Classic, won three games over the weekend, two of those via shutout, allowing just one run and striking out 15 in 20 innings. She shut out St. Francis (PA) on Friday, turning in a complete-game three-hitter, striking out five and then blanked UMBC on Saturday, 8-0, throwing five innings of two-hit ball, striking out seven.
On the year, Kinney, who has a 0.78 ERA over her last six appearances, is 5-4 with a 1.50 ERA and has struck out 31 hitters in 60.2 innings.
