(March 1, 2004) - Fordham University sophomore Katie Davis (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) and junior pitcher Carol Fischer (Berthoud, CO/Berthoud) earned their first career Atlantic 10 weekly honors, as Davis was named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week, while Fischer earned Atlantic 10 Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Davis, a transfer from Ohio University, earns her first weekly award as a Ram after hitting .429 over the weekend in five contests. She finished 6-for-14 with three runs scored, while recording two multi-hit games against George Mason and James Madison. Davis recorded her first three-hit game as a Ram, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and three RBI in Fordham's win over James Madison.
Fischer earns her first career honor after winning in her lone appearance of the weekend, giving up just one earned run in five plus innings. The win gave Fischer her 22nd career win, tying the Fordham school record. She also helped her own cause in the contest, hitting her first career home run.
The Fordham Softball team is currently 2-6 in the early goings of 2004, and will next be in action on Saturday, March 6th, as they open the home season with a tripleheader against Marist College and Colgate University, beginning at 12:00 PM.
