FORDHAM HIRES FORMER ROCKLAND HEAD COACH PAT CAREY AS ASSISTANT BASEBALL COACH

(November 9, 2004) - Fordham University has announced the hiring of former Rockland Community Head Baseball Coach, Pat Carey as assistant baseball coach today. Carey comes to Fordham after seven seasons at Rockland Community College, where he was head coach for two seasons (2003-04) and an assistant coach for five season (1998-2002). In his two seasons at Rockland, Carey was named the ABCA Region XV Coach of the Year in both seasons. Carey should be very familiar with Fordham, as he coached the ACBL??s Metro NY Cadets, which used Fordham??s Jack Coffey Field as their home field. During his playing days, he played for Providence College from 1995 to 1998, where he set the BIG EAST Conference Championships Batting Average record of .668 in 1998. In 1996, he was named the Mid-Hudson Conference Player of the Year. Carey also had plenty of success at the high school level, where at North Rockland High School, he was the USA Today New York State Player of the Year runner-up and the Journal News Player of the Year in 1994. He was a part of three New York State Class A Championship teams at North Rockland from 1992 to 1994, and was twice named All-County and All-League. Carey joins Fordham after the team finished the 2004 season with a 25-27-1 overall record, 13-11 in the Atlantic 10, and appeared in the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since the 1998 season. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City??s Jesuit University. With 22 men??s and women??s varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women??s rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
