(November 8, 2004) - Columbia University has been selected the top seed in the 2004 ECAC Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The Lions enter the tournament with an overall record of 9-8. The tournament is a four-team field with the semifinal and championship rounds being held at the Columbia Soccer Stadium. The teams selected are members of the Ivy League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Atlantic-10 and Northeast Conference.
Columbia will play the No. 4 seed, Niagara University in the first semifinal game on Friday, November 12 at 4 p.m. The No. 2 seed Long Island University (8-6-2) will meet Fordham University (8-6-3), the No. 3 seed in the second semifinal game at 7 p.m.
The championship game will feature the two semifinal winners on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The ECAC's membership includes 322 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina. The conference provides services to its constituents that include the administration of 110 championships and events in 35 men's and women's sports. During this fall, the ECAC assigned officials for 84 member institutions which included more than 1,500 assignments in the sport of women's soccer.
The ECAC will select six top officials to officiate this championship. In addition, the conference hosted Hofstra University, Brown University, University of Maine and Cal-Poly in the annual ECAC Division I Women's Soccer Classic presented by FieldTurf held on Cape Cod in September.
