FORDHAM??S TAD KORNEGAY NAMED PATRIOT LEAGUE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, DARRELL TAYLOR NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

(November 15, 2004) ?C Fordham University senior defensive back Tad Kornegay (Trenton, NJ/Hamilton West) was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman wide receiver Darrell Taylor (Sebastian River, FL/Sebastian River) was named Rookie of the Week for games of November 13th. This is the second weekly award for Kornegay this fall, who was named Defensive Player of the Week on October 9th, and the first for Taylor. Last Saturday, Fordham fell to eighth-ranked Lehigh University, 21-14, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In the Lehigh game, Kornegay returned three kickoffs for 89 yards, including a long return of 48 yards, while also making three tackles on return coverage and recovering an onside kick with just over two minute remaining as the Rams drove to the Lehigh 25 before being stopped on downs. Defensively, Kornegay made eight total tackles, seven solo, and he also broke up a pass. On the year, Kornegay, the 2004 Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, has seven interceptions, which leads the league and is tied for third best in Fordham history. The seven interceptions bring his career total to 13, also tied for third best all-time in Fordham history. He also has 52 total tackles this fall, 43 solo, fourth best on the team, and he leads the squad with eight pass deflections. Taylor caught three passes for 85 yards and one touchdown at Lehigh. He took a screen pass from quarterback Derric Daniels and turned it into a 35-yard touchdown with 1:32 remaining to bring the Rams to within a touchdown, 21-14. On the season, Taylor has made six receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams will close out the 2004 season by hosting Colgate University in a Patriot League contest on Saturday, November 20th at 12:00 p.m. on Jack Coffey Field.
