(October 4, 2004) ?C Fordham University sophomore quarterback Derric Daniels (Washington, DC/H.D. Woodson) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for games of October 2nd. This is the second consecutive week that Daniels earned the weekly honor.
Fordham picked up its first Patriot League win of the 2004 season with a 42-35 victory over Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday. It was the Rams?? fourth straight win on the season after they opened the year with a one-point loss to Rhode Island.
In the Holy Cross game, Daniels completed 13 of 23 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown. Daniels, who also gained 35 yards on seven carries with two touchdowns, saved his best for last as he hit Mike Melvin with a 42-yard scoring strike with 11 seconds left in the game to break a 35-35 tie.
The Holy Cross performance comes one week after he completed 16 of 25 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns against Duquesne. The five touchdown passes tied a Jack Coffey Field record, held by five different players. The last person to throw five touchdown passes on Jack Coffey Field was Fordham??s Mark Carney, who threw for five scores against Georgetown on September 29, 2002.
On the season, Daniels, who had not appeared in a college game prior to this year, has completed 61 of 120 passes for 747 yards and eleven touchdowns. He ranks third in the PL with a 128.4 pass efficiency rating.
The Rams will next host Brown University in a non-conference game on Saturday, October 9th at 1:00 p.m. on Jack Coffey Field.
