(Ocotber 25, 2004) - Fordham University junior Vanessa Breiwa (Dekalb, IL/Highland) was named Atlantic 10 Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending October 25th. This is Breiwa's first career Atlantic 10 honor, and she shares it with Dayton's Faye Barhorst. She is the first Fordham volleyball player to be named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week since Roxanne Hill earned the distinction in September of last season.
Breiwa had a solid week as the Rams swept a pair of matches this week against Rhode Island and Siena, ended the week hitting .364, averaging 3.38 kills and 1.75 blocks per game.
In just the second ever win for Fordham over Rhode Island, Breiwa had a season-high 18 kills to go with six blocks, helping Fordham even their conference record at 4-4 on the year. On Sunday, Breiwa finished with nine kills and eight blocks in a three-game sweep of Siena, which put Fordham at 12-12 overall, which is the first time since 1997 that the Rams have been at the .500 mark or better at this point in the season.
The Fordham Volleyball team currently sits in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 and will be in action at home this week, as they take on the third-place Xavier Musketeers on Friday, October 29th at 7:00 PM and the first-place Dayton Flyers on Saturday, October 30th at 4:00 PM.
Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University.
