(November 5, 2004) ?C Former Fordham University standout Smush Parker has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Pistons. He will begin the season on the disabled list with back spasms.
Parker played for the Rams in 2001-02, leading the team in scoring with a 16.5 ppg average, seventh best in the Atlantic 10. He also averaged 4.4 rpg and led the team with 125 assists, sixth best in the conference, while also recording 64 steals, third in the conference. The 6-4, guard, earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors that year and Second Team All-Metropolitan honors.
In 2002-03, Parker signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 6.2 ppg and 1.8 rpg. In 64 games, he dished out 162 assists and had 48 steals.
Parker began the 2003-04 season in camp with the Atlanta Hawks but was cut just before the season starter. He then signed with the Idaho Stampede of the CBA in November of 2003 and moved overseas a month later, signing with Aris Thessaloniki of the Greek League in December. He led the squad to the Greek Cup and was named Most Valuable Player of the championship tournament as well as a Greek A1 All-Star. Parker averaged 5.4 assists/game with Aris, second best in the league.
