(October 11, 2004) ?C Fordham University senior defensive back Tad Kornegay (Trenton, NJ/Hamilton West) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and freshman running back/kick returner Raymond Loney (Richmond, VA/Huguenot) was named Rookie of the Week for games of October 9th.
Last Saturday, Fordham fell to Brown in overtime, 27-20, on Jack Coffey Field.
In the Brown game, Kornegay intercepted three passes tying a Fordham varsity record which he set earlier this year against Duquesne (Sept. 25th). The third interception was on the final play of regulation which he almost returned for a touchdown, returning the pick 63 yards before going down on the Brown 27. Kornegay also made three solo tackles on the day.
On the year, Kornegay has seven interceptions, tied for third best in Fordham history. The seven interceptions bring his career total to 13, also tied for third best all-time in Fordham history. He also has 31 total tackles this fall, sixth best on the team, and he leads the squad with seven pass deflections.
Loney, a running back who returns kickoffs, returned three kickoffs for 138 yards against Brown. He returned one kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown to give Fordham a 17-10 lead in the third quarter. The 97-yard kickoff return tied Loney for the second longest return in Fordham football history.
On the season, Loney has returned five kickoffs for 174 yards for an average of 34.8 yards/return.
After a week off, the Rams will host Lafayette College in a Patriot League contest on Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m. on Jack Coffey Field.
