FORDHAM??S KEVIN EAKIN NAMED PATRIOT LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

(September 8, 2003) - Fordham University senior quarterback Kevin Eakin (Coral Springs, FL/Douglass) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for games of September 6th it was announced today. Fordham, the 2002 Patriot League Co-Champions, opened its 2003 road schedule with a 63-28 win at the University of Rhode Island last Saturday. The 63 points scored by the Fordham offense is the most scored by the Rams on the NCAA I-AA level and the most since a 78-7 win over New Haven in 1977. Eakin completed a career-high 25 of 34 passes last Saturday for 297 yards and a school-record six touchdowns. The six touchdown passes for Eakin breaks the school record of five, set by Mark Carney in 2001, and brings Eakin??s career total to 31, just one behind Carney??s career record of 32 set from 1998-2001. Over the first two games this fall, Eakin has completed 41 of 57 passes for 545 yards and nine touchdowns for an efficiency rating of 200.84. Last year, Eakin set Fordham school records for most passing yardage and most completions in a season, completing 239 of 383 yards for 3,040 yards and 22 touchdowns and was named First Team All-Patriot League. Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women??s varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
