(Sept. 12, 2003) - The 2003-04 Fordham University men??s basketball schedule features a sixteen-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule and 12 home games, including a game against Western Kentucky.
Over half of Forhdam??s 2003-04 opponents saw postseason action last year. Seven teams went to the NCAA Tournament (Dayton, Holy Cross, Memphis, Manhattan, Saint Joseph??s, Western Kentucky and Xavier) while seven others received bids to the NIT (Boston University, Fairfield, Rhode Island, Richmond, Temple and Western Michigan)
Fordham??s Atlantic 10 schedule includes home-and-home games with east division foes Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph??s, St. Bonaventure and Temple. From the west division, Dayton, George Washington and La Salle will visit the Rose Hill Gym, while the Rams will travel to Duquesne, Richmond, and Xavier.
In non-conference play, the Rams will open the season with a trip to Memphis where the Rams will take on the Memphis University Tigers, led by head coach John Calipari. Fordham will play seven of its eleven non-conference games on the road including trips to perennial rivals Holy Cross, Iona and Manhattan as well as trips to Siena, Fairfield and Western Michigan. Local fans will see the Rams host Northeastern in the home-opener on December 6th as well as Boston University, Western Kentucky and Columbia.
Fordham will be led into the season by first year head coach Dereck Whittenburg, who takes over at Fordham after four years at Wagner College where he led the Seahawks to the Northeast Conference Championship last year and their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
