KATIE DAVIS AND KRISTEN SHELDON TO TRANSFER TO FORDHAM

(August 29, 2003) - Fordham Softball Coach Bridget Baxter announced today that infielder Katie Davis (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) and outfielder Kristen Sheldon (Glendale, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) have decided to transfer to Fordham University to play softball for the upcoming season. Davis played at Ohio University as a freshman in 2003, while Sheldon was a sophomore at Gelndale Community College in Arizona. In her only season at Ohio University, Davis saw action in 34 games, splitting time between the outfield and the designated player. She finished second on the squad with 20 runs scored and tied for second on the team with five home runs. She hit .270 in 2003, adding six doubles, a triple, and nine RBI, while stealing six bases. In high school, Davis was named the Gettysburg Times Softball Player of the Year in both her junior and senior seasons. At Glendale Community College, Sheldon was one of the biggest producers for the Lady Gauchos. She played in the outfield and batted in the leadoff spot, batting .306 with 42 runs scored, 26 RBI, and 12 doubles. She finished last season leading the team in stolen bases with 40 and was also ranked among the NJCAA leaders in stolen bases. They join Rebecca Murphy (Meshoppen, PA/Elk Lake), Krystle Henry (Maywood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy), and Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) as newcomers for the 2003-04 season. The Fordham Softball team is currently coming off their most successful season ever. After a 14-43 record in 2002, Fordham had one of the most improved seasons in NCAA history. The Rams finished the year 37-19, the first winning season in Fordham??s 19-year softball history, and went 10-6 in the Atlantic 10 to earn their first ever Atlantic 10 Tournament playoff berth. The team 23 1/2 game turnaround was the seventh best single season improvement in NCAA history.
