(August 19, 2003) - Senior forward Jacqui Aines and senior goalkeeper Shannon Misiaszek were both named captains of the Fordham Women??s Soccer team today for the 2003 season, as announced by Head Coach Ness Selmani. This will be Aines?? first year as a captain, while it will be the second year for Misiaszek.
Aines is one of the top playmakers in the Atlantic 10 with the prowess to score goals, as well as setting them up, shown by her career totals of seven goals and 11 assists. She is just two assists shy of the Fordham career record of 13, held by Denise Corrado. A gritty player, Aines appeared in 13 games, starting six in 2002, as she scored two goals and two assists for six points.
Misiaszek returns as the Rams top netminder in 2003, after setting just about every Fordham goalkeeping record in just three years. She holds the Fordham career marks in goals against average, minutes played, shutouts, and starts in goal. In 2001, she set new school records with eight shutouts and a 1.08 GAA in a single season. Last year, Misiaszek started all 18 games that she appeared in, finishing the season with a 7-11-0 record, four shutouts, and a career best 101 saves. She ranked tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 in shutouts, and fifth in saves per game (5.61).
The Fordham Women??s Soccer team will have two scrimmage games prior to their season opener, which are at Army on August 25 at 7:00 PM and at Seton Hall on August 27 at 11:00 AM. Fordham??s regular season opener in on September 2nd, as they host Hofstra University at 4:00 PM on Edwards?? Parade.
