(July 7, 2003) - Fordham University men??s basketball head coach Dereck Whittenburg announced the signing of Derrick Breland (Silver Spring, MD/Hutchinson Community College) and Dominic Osei (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) to Letters of Intent to play basketball at Rose Hill in 2003-04.

Breland, a 5-10, 183-pound guard, averaged 7.5 ppg and 2.8 assists/game last year at Hutchinson Community College. He netted a season-high 21 points and had seven rebounds and four assists in a win over Lincoln School of Commerce.
Breland started his collegiate career at Boston University, where he played in 2000-01; appearing in 20 games and averaging 1.9 ppg and 1.2 rpg while dishing out 35 assists and notching 12 steals.
Following his year at Boston University, Breland returned to Maryland where he took classes at a local junior college before transferring to Hutchinson last year.
A graduate of Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland, Breland was a two-year letter winner in basketball, averaging 12.0 ppg and 10.0 assists/game as a junior in 1998-99. He set the school record for assists in a single season as a junior and earned Honorable Mention All-Met and was an Honorable Mention pick for the McDonald??s All-America Team.
Osei, a 6??5, 210 pound swingman, led Lincoln High School to its second straight PSAL championship last winter. He averaged 13.2 ppg and 10.7 rpg for the Railsplitters last year, including 5.8 ppg and 9.2 rpg in the playoffs. He highlighted his playoffs with an eight-point, seven-rebound effort in the PSAL A Championship game win over Cardoza.
A four-year varsity player, Osei shot 85.4% (41-48) from the free throw line last year at Lincoln.
