FORDHAM'S VARSITY 8 NAMED ECAC CREW OF THE WEEK

The women??s crews from Trinity College, Dartmouth College women?? varsity eight, Georgetown University men??s varsity eight, and Fordham University women??s varsity eight have all earned ECAC Crews of the Week honors for this week. In the ECAC Metro League, Fordham women??s varsity eight takes home crew of the week honors. They participated in the NY State Collegiate Championships last weekend on Whitney Point Lake. The varsity eight won a five-boat heat on Saturday to advance to the Grand Final in a field of fifteen crews. The final on Sunday saw Fordham trailing off at the start but quickly moving up on the early leaders. Fordham and Buffalo would take command of the race after five hundred meters. Buffalo maintained a small lead on Fordham varying between one to four seats throughout the race. In the last five hundred meters Fordham began to cut into the Buffalo lead, finally taking the lead themselves with a few strokes to go. Fordham won the championship for the first time ever in a time of 7:11.6 to Buffalo??s 7:11.8. The Army crew was third with a time of 7:21.4. Conditions were excellent for this final with flat water and a mild head wind. The Fordham varsity eight is comprised of Janine Abdallah (stroke), Megan Rogers (7), Deirdre O??Callaghan (6), Lauren Boyle (5), Carolyn McMahon (4), Melissa Shokoufandeh (3), Alexis Sneff (2) and Allison McGuinn (bow) with Jackie Marotta at coxswain. The Fordham crew will next participate at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday, May 9th and 10th before competing at the ECAC Championships on Sunday, May 11th on the Cooper River in Collingswood, New Jersey.
