FORDHAM SOFTBALL SIGNS SARA KINNEY

(April 24, 2003) - Fordham Softball Coach Bridget Baxter announced the signing of one recruit today as the Rams signed pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs). Kinney, a senior at Dripping Springs, has been almost unhittable in her senior season. Leading into the Central Texas playoffs, she has helped Dripping Springs to the District Title, as she has gone 17-3 on the year with 285 strikeouts. She has also pitched 12 shutouts, four no-hitters, and a perfect game on the season. "We are very excited to get a player of Sara's ability at Fordham and look forward to her joining the team next fall," said coach Baxter. The Fordham Softball team is currently having the best season in its 18-year history, as they are 31-15 overall, smashing the school record for wins in a season, which was 19 in 2001. They are also still in contention to make the Atlantic 10 playoffs with a 5-5 conference mark, with six games remaining, four of which are this weekend with doubleheaders scheduled at Temple (18-16, 8-2 A-10) and at George Washington (3-26, 0-10 A-10). Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
