FOUR FORDHAM STUDENT ?CATHLETES NAMED ATLANTIC 10 ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE FOR 2002-03 WINTER SEASON

Four Fordham University student-athletes were recently recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments by being named to their respective 2002-03 Atlantic 10 Winter Academic All-Conference teams. Earning the accolades for the Rams were senior Ben Chisholm (Concord, CA/Clayton Valley), from the Swimming and Diving programs and senior Andrew Holzheimer (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy), sophomore Jason Schenck (East Rockaway, NY/Chaminade) and senior Stephanie Irvin (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) from the Indoor Track & Field program. Of the 22 sports sponsored by the Atlantic 10, seven are winter sports: men??s and women??s basketball, women??s gymnastics, men??s and women??s swimming & diving, and men??s and women??s indoor track & field. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.00 and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team. Voting is conducted by the Atlantic 10 Conference??s sports information directors. The number of players selected to a team reflects the standard-sized team in that sport. Chisholm, who received his second straight Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference award, helped lead the Fordham men??s team to a sixth place finish at the Atlantic-10 Championships. He Placed third in the 200 breaststroke, seventh in the 400 IM and eighth in the 100 backstroke at the Atlantic 10 Championships. He was also a member of the 4000 medley relay team that placed fourth, the 400 freestyle relay team that placed fifth and the 800 freestyle relay team which took sixth. He recorded Fordham??s fastest 100 and 200 breaststroke times this winter, serving as a team captain. In 2001-02, Chisholm was named All-Atlantic 10 at the championship meet by winning the 200 breaststroke while finishing second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 400 IM. Chisholm was also a member of the 800 freestyle relay team which finished fourth at the Atlantic 10 Championships and was ranked among the top five in total points scored at the championship. The English major has also been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner??s Honor Roll for the past four years. Holzheimer, who received his second straight Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference award, scored in three events at the Atlantic 10 Championships, taking fifth in both the 55 meter hurdles (8.10 seconds) and the pole vault (13?? 9.25??) and sixth in the shot put (33?? 4.5??). During the regular season, he won the pole vault at both the Ram Invitational and the Fordham Christmas Invitational and took fifth in the pole vault at the Manhattan Invitational. Holzheimer recorded Fordham??s best shot put, pole vault and pentathlon showings this winter. In 2001-02, Holzheimer, finished third in the 55-meter hurdles at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships (7.84) while also registering the second fastest 55-meter hurdle time in the Atlantic 10. The Business Administration major finished fifth in the pentathlon and seventh in the 60 meter hurdles at the Metropolitan Championships and finished third in the 60 meter hurdles at the Fordham Invitational. Holzheimer has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner??s Honor Roll each of the past four years. Schenck, was a member of the Fordham distance medley relay team that placed second at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Championships. He was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed second at the Terrier Classic, qualifying for the IC4A Championships and of the 4x400 meter relay team that took fifth at the Atlantic 10??s. Individually, Schenck took fifth in the 400 meters at the Navy Invitational and had Fordham??s second fastest 400 meter time this winter as well as the second best long jump. The Accounting major has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner??s Honor Roll the past two years. Irvin, an indoor/outdoor track team captain, earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors this winter by placing second in the 400 meters at the Atlantic 10 Championships. She was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that took second at the Atlantic 10 Championships, earning Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Irvin also scored by placing fourth in the 200 meters at the Atlantic 10 Championships. A member of the 4x400 meter relay team that broke the school record and qualified for the ECAC Championships with a time of 3:53.51 at the Armory Invitational, Irvin was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week on January 26th following Terrier Classic where she won the 400 meters in a school record time of 57.97. She then bettered that record the following week at the Metropolitan Championships with a 57.52 clocking. The Business Management major also won the 400 meters and placed second in the 200 meters at the Navy Invitational and had Fordham??s fastest 400 meter time this winter.
